About Emma
Growing up in a small town in rural Wisconsin, my imagination had room to run wild. As a kid, I devoured every book I could get my hands on—from history texts to sweeping epics like The Lord of the Rings. But everything changed when I was thirteen and read Les Misérables. That book lit a spark in me—one that quickly grew into an undeniable passion: I had to write a novel of my own.
I started small by crafting stories just for fun. My family had an old laptop that no one used, and I wrote my first novella, The Knight of the Sun, in my email drafts on it because I was too nervous to save it anywhere else. For a long time, I kept my writing hidden. But with encouragement from a close friend, I began sharing it—and gaining confidence. I moved from fantasy to mystery and, eventually, found my home in thrillers.
My dream became reality with my debut, Where Demons Dance. Though I started in historical fiction, my writing has since shifted toward psychological thrillers. I’m drawn to exploring the human mind—especially themes like mental illness, paranoia, and secretive characters.
Writing has always been my escape, and my hope is that my stories can offer you the same refuge.
Outside of writing, I’m a history buff—especially fascinated by the 19th and 20th centuries—and I love digging into research whenever I can. Some of my favorite authors include Ray Bradbury, John Marrs, and Matt Haig. I also have a deep love for music and collect vinyl records. (The Beatles are my favorite.) I love a good coffee (a salted caramel latte, of course) while scrapbooking or journaling when I’m not writing. My dog, Chewie, never leaves my side and he makes a great dance partner!
